Young musicians from Tomorrow’s Warriors and our managing director, Janine Irons were interviewed for a radio feature about the ongoing debate surrounding the Southbank Centre’s proposals for a new skate park. The feature was aired last week on the US’s National Public Radio (NPR) evening programme, All Things Considered, a programme with 20 million listeners. We think it’s a pretty well-balanced feature overall.

Skateboarders Mobilize As Art Center Tries To Reclaim Cavern
This weekend (14-15 September) we’ll be taking part in an Open Space event to talk about the Southbank Centre’s development proposals.
Open Space is a framework that brings people together to work on complex issues, with often creative and unexpected results. Phelim McDermott, Artistic Director of Improbable, will be the facilitator. Nothing is off the agenda: the role, style and place of restaurants and cafes; skateboarding at Southbank Centre; spaces for musicians and dancers; the community gardens; heritage architecture; public funding; children’s facilities – these are just some of the topics that might come up…you may have others. Everything can be discussed. In Open Space the agenda is set by the people who are there.
