Tomorrow’s Warriors national touring programme, The Jazz Ticket got off to a triumphant start in March with three astounding performances by young musicians from participating schools who were the opening act for the awesome Nu Civilisation Orchestra that boasts some of the finest jazz musicians around. Performing music by six jazz greats along with a stunning new piece by MD Peter Edwards – A Journey with the Giants of Jazz – audiences have enjoyed the musical ride of their life!

The Jazz Ticket celebrates the centenary of the birth of six Giants of Jazz by introducing their music to young musicians and getting them to improvise, solo and perform together as an ensemble, in the spirit of their Jazz Great.

Leading members of Tomorrow’s Warriors’ learning faculty – Binker Golding, Ben Burrell, Alex Davis, and Dian Gasper with support from assistant music leaders, Sheila Maurice Grey and Cherise Adams-Burnett, and apprentice music leader, Kianja Harvey Elliott – led inspirational workshops in schools across Southampton, Luton and Leicestershire and challenged the young people to face their fears and solo anyway!

The reaction to the project has been incredible! Students have told us that The Jazz Ticket has pushed them out of their comfort zone and got them to challenge their fears.  They are now “not scared to take risks” and are “inspired to practise more”.

Teachers have told us that The Jazz Ticket has provided them with a key to unlock the teaching of jazz . “Seeing how students have responded to The Jazz Ticket and how eager they are to learn has inspired me, and has shown me a way to get young people performing jazz step by step”.

We resume our Journey with the Giants of Jazz and The Jazz Ticket in July in Manchester – our inspirational music leaders have been busy working with the talented young people of Greater Manchester preparing them for their gala concert on 13 July at RNCM. The programme then continues to Bristol, Brighton and Hull through the Autumn until it reaches London in early-2018 for an unmissable grand finale at Southbank Centre.

      1. Thanks guys,
The note from you means a great deal to me. It is all about keeping the truth alive for the generation to come. The great work you do with the kids is amazing. Thanks
