Dave Holland, one of the most acclaimed and accomplished jazz bassists, spent an incredible evening with our young Warriors musicians on Saturday 9 March at the Southbank, London.

The evening featured a masterclass for bass players, an open jazz masterclass and Q&A session, plus a big jam to wrap up the evening.

This was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with Dave Holland, a musician who, over the course of his five-decade career, he has never stopped evolving – from the electric whirlwind of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew-era band, to his flamenco collaboration with Spanish guitar legend Pepe Habichuela; accompanying the great vocalist Betty Carter in her last years, to forging a new sound with the avant-garde quartet Circle alongside Chick CoreaAnthony Braxton, and Barry Altschul; standing alongside legends like Stan GetzHerbie HancockHank Jones and Roy Haynes to providing early opportunities to now-leading players like Chris PotterKevin and Robin Eubanks, or Steve Coleman; Dave Holland has been at the forefront of jazz in many of its forms since his earliest days.

A huge thank you to Dave for being so generous and supportive with his time and advice. This was an inspirational evening for a packed room of Warriors musicians!

We’re launching our Big Give Arts for Impact appeal on 19 March to help fund our summer school, Summer Runnings, and we will need your support to make sure that we can deliver a two-week programme of £FREE workshops, masterclasses and industry days.
