Congratulations to the brilliant musical talent and Tomorrow’s Warriors stalwart, Peter Edwards on winning the Jazz Newcomer of the Year in the 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Awards (aka ‘The Parlies’) on 10 March at an exclusive ceremony in the House of Commons.
The All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG), comprising MPs and peers of all major political parties from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords selected the final award winners following nominations by the general public.
Hurray! This is a well-deserved win for Peter and a massive vote of confidence for his all-round skills as a composer, bandleader, educator, jazz musician and exceedingly good egg. Peter’s debut album Safe and Sound was cited as the reason for his win.
We also congratulate our two supremely talented alumna: Laura Jurd who very deservedly won the Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year for her brilliant trumpet playing and all round musicianship; and the ever rising Zara McFarlane, who was runner-up for Jazz Vocalist of the Year.
They say last is by no means least, and this is especially true of the person who received the Special APPJAG Award that acknowledges a lifetime achievement in jazz..our very dear friend, and teacher/mentor of our Artistic Director….Lord of the Lower Frequency, the superb double bassist, Peter Ind. We salute you, Peter and thank you warmly for your beautiful spirit, energy, wisdom and of course, your music that you give so generously. We cannot think of a more deserved recipient of this very special award!
Dear Janine, Gary and all at Tomorrow’s Warriors. Many thanks for this and congrats to Peter too. It was good to get that acknowledgment – now I need to think of something special to do this year to celebrate. Thanks again
