We are SOOOOO THRILLED to share news of our brilliant alumni who have received nominations in the MOBOs and Mercury Prize in recognition of their outstanding debut recordings:
BINKER & MOSES
Fabulously hip sax and drums duo, Binker & Moses have been nominated for the MOBO Best Jazz Act following the release of their debut album, Dem Ones (Gearbox Records) earlier this year. “Dem Ones is a special album. Not only does it showcase the deftness of their playing but it also shows that in 2015 a stripped back and bare-boned jazz album can be the most exciting thing ever” (Ransomnote.co.uk). We’re thrilled for both of them and strongly suspect we’ll be seeing more award nominations coming their way over the coming years. For the time being, though, it’s the MOBOs and we’d love them to win. So, if you do too, get yourself along to the MOBO website ASAP and get voting (and tell family and friends to do so too)!
ESKA
The extraordinary Eska has been nominated for the massively prestigious Mercury Music Prize for Album Of The Year, which is decided by a group of illustrious music industry gurus. Eska was a member of Tomorrow’s Warriors back in the late ’90s/early ’00s and always stood out from the crowd as a truly distinctive creative artist. We are inspired by how she has stayed the course and followed her own, unique path, creating the music she wants to create, at her own pace – “drawing on everything from psychedelic soul to folk infused with the spirit of Kate Bush” (The Guardian). A truly awesome artist. Well done, Eska! We are all immensely proud of/thrilled for you!
Have a listen to her wonderful debut album, Eska (Earthling Recordings/Naim Audio)
So, to all three of our brilliant alumni, many congrats on your nominations! In our eyes, you’re already winners, but we’re keeping our fingers, toes and everything else crossed hoping you all pick up gongs on awards night! Good luck!
