Another fine EP coming from the Warriors family, this time with the eponymous debut, Nérija. Let’s hear it for the girls…Woop-woop-woop!
With the vibe of a live concert, the musicians have hit us with an EP that shows the full range of their compositional and playing power. Plenty of strong ensemble playing and great soloing give them an edge, and their masterful compositions – ranging from sonic lushness to rocking Afro-jazz grooves – give them a sound quite unlike any other group in the UK.
We’ve also received a framed copy of the crisp and distinctive artwork by Nérija’s trumpeter, Sheila Maurice-Grey. Only problem is…there’s only one, so we’re getting ready to do battle over whose wall it will eventually hang on!
Artistic Director and former mentor, Gary Crosby OBE enthused, “Nerija are starting to live up to the promise we knew was there when they first came together as the original Tomorrow’s Warriors Female Collective. This serious but happy music showcases their elegant writing and fine playing skills, and I’m look forward with open ears to the next instalment of this wonderful young band”.
Congratulations, ladies!
If you want to get your hands on a copy of Nérija, take a trip over to the Nérija Bandcamp site where you can purchase a copy of the digital EP or physical CD. Even better, get yourself along to one of their upcoming gigs and, if you say hello after the show, there’s a good chance they’ll sign your copy for you!
