Tomorrow's Warriors Winter Showcase 2017

Kickstart your festive celebrations with the extraordinary young musical talent of Tomorrow’s Warriors!

Celebrating 25 years of delivering top quality live music and music education for young people from diverse backgrounds in London and around the country, we’re going all out with a very special end of year showcase event at our creative home at Southbank Centre, London. Featuring all of our Frontline performance ensembles, including the much-loved Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Orchestra, our Extraordinary Winter Showcase will be a very special day of live music, with a big slice of jazz-infused goodness to suit everyone.

TW Ensemble Winter Showcase
12.30-14.30, The Clore Ballroom

First stop, give your lunchtime some festive cheer with sets from our youngest but boldest ensemble, the Tomorrow’s Warriors Junior Band (aged 11-15) led by Artistic Director Gary Crosby OBE. After a packed year of high profile performances across London, this quintet are the MOBO/Jazz FM stars of the future.

Our newest performance group, The Residents, will be bringing a whole other level of swing to the proceedings. Made up of musicians from our Vintage Warriors and Emerging Artists programmes, The Residents provides a platform for artists of all levels and from different disciplines to come together for a variety of performance projects, including the Social Dance event during the London Jazz Festival with Swingland dance company. This time around, they are joined by some dancing friends and special guests from our jazz strings ensemble, Tomorrow’s Warriors StringTing.

And taking us full-force into the holiday spirit will be Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Ensemble – a sextet with serious swing. Aged 15-19, and led by MOBO award-winning Binker Golding (of Binker & Moses), they are much in demand as one of our leading performance groups.

TW Headline Jam
18.00-20.30, The Clore Ballroom

As a special 25th Anniversary treat, and to launch the Southbank’s Winter Festival series, the Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Orchestra (TWYO) will be performing The Nutcracker Suite by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, along with some classic festive big band treats. TWYO features the best of our young musicians aged 15-19 led by Binker Golding.

Opening the evening, will be our 8-piece Female Frontline – a group that embodies the Warrior spirit in more than just serious music talent. Playing a selection of upbeat jazz standards and festive versions of some well-known classics, the Female Frontliners will have you dancing your way through the winter blues.

And no Warrior anniversary party would be complete without our House Band and guests from past and present. Going back to our roots, and celebrating the jam that set so many successful jazz musicians on their way, the Tomorrow’s Warriors Headline Jam will be an evening of incredible music featuring Warriors past and present!

Join us in The Clore Ballroom at Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 10 December from 12.30pm!
