November is a big month in the UK jazz calendar, with the EFG London Jazz Festival bringing live sessions and concerts to a whole range of venues across the capital.

Whilst you’ll always find a host of Warriors alumni performing, this year’s London Jazz Festival was a testament to how important your support for the work we do at TW truly is, and this year our involvement shone a light on every aspect of that work.

Two of our key development groups played shows to packed houses, with our Youth Ensemble performing at Karamel, and Tomorrow’s Warriors Frontline headlining at Pizza Express in Holborn.

We had three of our emerging artists performing, Allexa Nava, Donovan Haffner and Amy Gadiaga, with their own projects for the Late Shows at the Nutcracker Suite nights at the Southbank Centre. And Donovan Haffner was back in action again with his quintet at Pizza Express.

Nu Civlisation Orchestra (NCO) teamed up with dance company Clod Ensemble to perform Charles Mingus’ Black Saint and the Sinner Lady at Shoreditch Town Hall. NCO is one of our professional ensembles and provides an important career progression pathway for young musicians, so we were delighted to offer an orchestral debut to 19-year-old bassist Tom Sheen.

These live performances are essential development opportunities for all the young musicians involved and are a key part of underpinning the work of our free Learning Programme. It’s thanks to the support from you, our sponsors and donors, that these opportunities can become a reality for each generation of Warriors.
