Our founder and artistic director, Gary Crosby OBE is truly excited to launch THE JAZZ SALON – a new series of engaging conversations and enthralling live music – at Foyles’ flagship London bookstore on Friday 26th February, 6.15pm-8.00pm and on the First Friday of Every Month thereafter.
The Jazz Salon is hosted by journalist and broadcaster, Kevin Le Gendre whose guest each month will offer insight into the cultural reverberations of jazz across a broad spectrum of interests: Health & Wellbeing (26 Feb), Food (25 Mar), Spoken Word (29 Apr), Dance, Art (27 May), and Dance (24 Jun). Guests include jazz trumpeter and yoga aficionado Yazz Ahmed, broadcaster and Jazz FM presenter Helen Mayhew, poet/DJ Charlie Dark (in association with Apples & Snakes), vinyl specialists Gearbox Records, and dancer/choreographer Sean Graham. Bassist Gary Crosby leads the Jazz Salon House Band featuring emerging talent from the Tomorrow’s Warriors stable who pick up the conversation with a selection of related jazz repertoire. The Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Orchestra make a special appearance in March to recreate the sounds of Duke Ellington’s Cotton Club.
Keep in touch and follow us to see our recommended listening and reading lists for our salon sessions!
A growing body of research points to a link between mental health and creativity. In our first Jazz Salon, host Kevin Le Gendre and trumpeter Yazz Ahmed explore the relationship between yoga, meditation and jazz, followed by music to restore the spirit by Gary Crosby’s Jazz Salon House Band.
