Join us from 12noon-5.30pm on Saturday 22 July on the Riverside Terrace, Level 2, outside Royal Festival Hall at Southbank Centre to mark the end of term and start of summer with a showcase of extraordinary musical talent from Tomorrow’s Warriors.
Throughout 2017, we’re celebrating 25 years of Tomorrow’s Warriors supporting hundreds of young jazz musicians from diverse backgrounds to become the best that they can be, as they journey through jazz via our unique talent development programme.
Now that summer is here, the Tomorrow’s Warriors flagship ensembles are coming together for a very special afternoon of live music, with a slice of jazz-infused goodness to suit all-comers.
Kicking off the show will be the TW Junior Band – a quintet of musicians aged 12-15 – followed by the TW Youth Ensemble (aged 16-19). Both groups have been much in demand for festivals and gigs across London this year – evidence of the great outcomes achieved through the dedication and commitment of the young musicians and the Tomorrow’s Warriors Music Leader Faculty.
Also joining us will be groups from our Emerging Artist Programme, including the our exciting TW Female Collective, and jazz strings ensemble TW StringTing – still buzzing from their Royal Festival Hall performances at the WOW – Women Of The World festival alongside, and as part of, our Nu Civilisation Orchestra.
And for those of you who can’t stop tapping your feet, we’ll be joined by dancers from leading swing dance company, Swingland to lead an afternoon taster session (no experience necessary) with an hour of social dancing, accompanied by The Residents – the professional development group led by Tomorrow’s Warriors Artistic Director, Gary Crosby OBE.
To round off the day, the Tomorrow’s Warriors Youth Orchestra plus guests from the TW Vintage Warriors, Bristol Reggae Orchestra and The Notebenders from Birmingham, will be bringing some big band magic to the Southbank for a one-off set of familiar tunes, led by Gary Crosby and TW Music Leader, Ben Burrell.
Come along on Saturday 22 July to see, hear and get to know some of the most exciting emerging young jazz artists in the UK! Here’s the schedule:
