Our Nu Civilisation Orchestra conducted by musical director, Peter Edwards scored a hit on 2 February when the band premiered its latest project, CTI Revisited at London jazz hotspot, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. They sold out both shows and wowed their audience with their take on CTI classics such as Also Sprach Zarathustra (better known as the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey), Mr Magic, People Make The World Go Round, Little Sunflower and Red Clay, showcasing the superb music arranging skills of Peter and fellow pianist, Ben Burrell.
CTI heralded a Nu Cool Revolution and the spectacular set delivered by our Nu Civilisation Orchestra reminded us just how pivotal this catalogue was in inspiring a new and younger generation of jazz fans and, in the process, widening the appeal of jazz and jazz-influenced music.
Opening for the NCO and making their Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club debut was our astonishingly-talented Tomorrow’s Warriors Quartet featuring four of our finest young musicians: Donovan Haffner (alto sax), Sultan Stevenson (keys), Menelik Claffey (bass) and Cassius Cobbson (drums). They did A-M-A-ZING (with lots of ZING!).
Thank you journalist Kevin Le Gendre’s for your lovely review in Jazzwise Magazine!
